I am thrilled to share a different focus for today's blog - I have an announcement to make. After 2.5 years of research and hard work, my 9th book has been published and will be available October 4!
Step 1: Title and why that title
The title of my new novel is "Onward: A Life on a Sailboat."
The book's stories take the reader on an adventure beyond the confines of daily routines. The protagonist, Jovanny, is on a quest for more out of life. He decides to take a chance and embark on an adventure, a journey that leads him to discover more about himself and some of life's lessons.
Step 2: Travel and the stories
The novel is based on real stories from my life and from stories told to me by others. The reader is immersed in Jovanny's world as he tries to discover what he wants in life through the people he meets and the situations he encounters. The book takes the reader to various places, including the deserts of Algeria, the streets of Beirut, the beaches of Tel Aviv, and the waters of the Nile.
Step 3: Official Synopsis
"Onward" is the story of Jovanny, who, after experiencing a tragedy, decides to embark on a life of adventure on his sailboat. His journey takes him to different parts of the world, from Amalfi, sailing to Santorini, Dubrovnik, Africa's coasts, and beyond. Along the way, he learns life lessons from each destination. Each destination uncovers more of what the protagonist is searching for and reveals to him and the reader what matters.
Step 4: Market
I spent 25 fantastic years teaching high school history. My classroom experience emphasized the significance of visual thinking. In my new book, I aim to engage the reader by portraying vivid scenes across the page that relate to the life stories of each of us.
I don't write for the "market," but I strive to record the stories that come to me as I journey through life. This book captures many of these stories.
Step 5: The Story
The book came to me as we drove along the Adriatic in southern Italy on a beautiful summer afternoon. As we gazed out at the waters, I could almost see the protagonist, Jovanny, going towards shore after a series of events carried him to Lebanon, the coast of Africa, and Antalya in Turkey. His adventure became mine, and a series of true stories became tied together in a life that we all, to some extent, long to live.
Insights:
While writing this book, I had the opportunity to compile a series of true stories and explore how each event transformed the protagonists and myself. I hope the reader will be carried along on the same journey and make it their own.
